Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to give an additional MVR 2000 to the staff as Ramadan allowance this year.

In a statement released on Tuesday, MPL stated that the company will be giving the staff an additional MVR 2000 as a 'Ramadan Gift' this year.

MPL said the decision was made after factoring in that MPL staff work long hours even during Ramadan. MPL noted that imports increase during Ramadan and thus the staff will be working around the clock to ensure smooth operations.

Ramadan allowance of MVR 3000 is mandated for all Muslim employees, and should be given to them before Ramadan begins.
