Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s Chairperson and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated President Solih can win elections without Speaker Nasheed's support.

President Solih met with coalition members Adaalath and MDA at Muliaage on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Minister Fayyaz said two people cannot rule at the same time, and although Nasheed's support is essential for the elections, President Solih can without it as well.

"We really want Nasheed's support. But if he doesn't support us, we will go ahead and win the elections anyway," Minister Fayyaz said.

MP Imthiyaz Fahmy from Nasheed's faction told 'One' that Nasheed will support JP's presidential candidate this year.

Fayyaz has criticised Nasheed's support for other party candidates as it goes against MDP's regulations.

He added that no decision has been made about taking action against Nasheed, and that MDP is on the way to yet again win the presidential elections this year.
