Islamic Ministry has announced 23 March 2023 as the first of Ramadan.

Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir stated on Tuesday night that the moon has not been sighted in the Maldives. As such, Ramadan will begin on 23 March this year, the Minister said.

Minister Dr. Zahir urged the public to remain steadfast in religion.

The Ministry will also be collecting zakat from 23 March to 18 April and a desk will be set up at the Ministry for zakat collection. In addition, zakat can also be paid online via Ooredoo, Dhiraagu, Bank of Maldives (BML), Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), and Fahi Pay application, the Ministry stated.
