President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the 'Hiyaa Rayyithunge Gulhun' organization today, where they discussed on a potential decrease to the rent of the social housing units.
Speaking to One Online regarding the meeting that was held at the President's Office today, Super Admin of the organization, Ali Rifau noted that the main concern raised to the President was the high rent. He also noted that a positive reaction was received to their concern.
Rifau revealed that the President had proposed three ways to reduce the rent.
As such, he noted that decreasing rent for five years - the length of bank loans was one option, while the second option was reducing rent for those who need it and the third option was to increase the loan length to 30 years instead of 25 and reduce the rent for everyone. Upon being asked which option was most favorable, they had noted that since it is a social housing scheme, rent decreases should reflect for everyone equally.
Rifau further highlighted that the government will make a decision regarding the matter after the advise by the Economic Council. He added that a special committee would discuss decreasing the rent after a survey and assessment of living conditions in the hiyaa flats.
