Elections Commission (EC) has dissolved Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party (DRP) and Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP) from the party registry.
In an announcement made on Wednesday, EC said that as per the Political Party Regulation, the Commission has dissolved parties that have less than 3,000 members.
As such, DRP and MLSDP have been dissolved and the party leaders identified as the person responsible for any debt the party may carry.
DRP was informed that the party will be dissolved on 18 May 2022 and MLSDP was informed on 17 June 2022, EC said.
DRP leader Abdulla Jabir filed a case against EC at High Court regarding the decision, however High Court Registrar stated the case cannot be accepted by the court.
