Home Minister Imran Abdulla has stated that work will begin on developing police services in 60 islands on 25 March as per President Solih's pledge.
Answering questions at the Parliament on Tuesday, Minister Imran stated that the advance payment for the project has been requested from Finance Ministry.
He added that the project will commence within 15 days once the advance payment is made, and that some delays are due to the unavailability of land plots in some islands.
"We are hopeful to begin this project on 25 March," Minister Imran said.
President Solih pledged police services in all inhabited islands by the end of the year while presenting the Presidential Address at the Parliament.
President Solih noted that police services are crucial in all inhabited islands, and that even with the geographical challenges, 18 stations had been inaugurated in the islands over the past year.
