Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD) is set to compete in the by-election of Guraidhoo constituency.

MTD on Thursday announced that they have opened applications for candidacy, which should be informed to [email protected] via e-mail before 5:00pm on March 11th.

When MP Ibrahim Riza passed away on February 23, the Guraidhoo seat became vacant. He died in Malaysia at the age of 55 after a two-year battle with cancer.

Election Commission (EC) had earlier announced that the by-election will be held on April 15th.

PPM’s Spokesperson Heena Waleed, on Thursday, said only Hussain Riza filed his candidacy during the application period. Hussain Riza is a long-serving official of the judiciary – with most of his time being spent at the Criminal Court. He holds a masters in law.

MDP and MNP will also be competing in the by-election.
