Former Attorney General (AG) Dr. Mohamed Munavvar has hinted at a possible run at the 2023 Presidential Election this September.
Dr. Munavvar tweeted a photo with '2023 Dr. Munavvar', who has also opened a campaign office today. His campaign logo is a 'Dhondheeni', a bird typically found in the Maldives.
While Dr. Munavvar has hinted at his possible candidacy, he had worked in the campaign of Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed during the MDP Presidential Primary just last January.
He has also been strongly criticizing government policies. As such, he was a strong critic of the government's stand over the Chagos dispute.
Those who have announced a bid for the Presidency so far are President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from MDP, Mohamed Nazim from MNP, and former Home Minister, Umar Naseer.
Even though the opposition PPM had given their ticket to former President Abdulla Yameen, he lost his ticket after being found guilty of corruption. However, he still stands the chance to compete if found innocent during the appeal process.
