Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that they will be conducting spot checks on drivers who wear helmets in areas where it is not mandatory.

A Press Statement released by the Police on Sunday noted that they have noticed an increase in people wearing helmets to hide their identity while committing crimes as of late. Hence, they noted that spot checks will be conducted on those who wear helmets in areas where they are not mandated.

While Police have begun their operation today, two people wearing a helmet vandalized a juice bar in Hulhumale on Thursday with another two people stabbing a man inside a shop in Male' City on Friday.

According to regulations, helmets are mandatory for people driving, and in the backseat of A1 and A0 category vehicles, in areas where the speed limit is above 30 kilometers. Only the Sinamale' Bridge and the highway are the areas where the speed limit is permitted.
