Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula has been elected as the Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) among four others.
A total of 12 candidates competed for the Deputy Leader role in the competitive internal elections of JP. These include current Ministers, State Ministers, and Deputy Ministers as well as former Ministers and Parliamentarians.
However, only Minister Nahula was elected among current government officials. She was elected as the Deputy Leader as the candidate that received the most votes.

- Transport Minister Aishath Nahula - 558 Votes
- Former Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim - 327 Votes
- Former North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah - 287 Votes
- Former Vice President of JP Ahmed Saud - 275 Votes
- Former Chairman of FENAKA Corporation Iqbal Adam - 263 Votes
- Former South Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed - 258 Votes
- State Minister Hassan Mugunee - 255 Votes
- Isdhoo MP Ali Hameed - 198 Votes
- Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed - 147 Votes
- Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed Hussain (Hanafy) - 143 Votes
- Yashfa Abdul Ghanee - 138 Votes
- Former Keyodhoo MP Moosa Nizar Ibrahim - 102 Votes
A motion that was submitted to the congress calling on the party to compete in the upcoming 2023 Presidential Election was also passed during the congress last night. The motion was passed by Former South Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed.
The motion stated that congress advises the council to compete in the election. Hence, the new council elected during the congress will make a decision on JP regarding the election.
