Maldives Democratic Alliance (MDA) has stated that the party's leader and Meedhoo constituency MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed (Sun Siyam) is someone who maintains coalition agreement.

Opposition coalition PPM/PNC has held discussions with MDA to form a coalition prior to elections.

MDA's deputy leader Ali Mauroof told the media on Thursday that MDA's leader honors promises and regardless of who MDA makes a coalition with.

He added that MDA maintained their 2013 coalition with PPM for 5 years.

"You might have seen some parties leaving the coalition, but we stayed with president Yameen as part of the coalition for the betterment of the economy. If MDA joins a coalition again, we assure you we will stay with the coalition throughout," Mauroof said.

He added that a coup would negatively affect the public and that MDA would not work against the government after forming a coalition.
