Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir has revealed that the Maldives has received a 1,000-people quota for the Hajj pilgrimage for the year.

The Minister revealed in a tweet on Wednesday that the government of Saudi Arabia had officially allotted a quota of 1,000 for the Maldives. He further added that works are underway to secure more slots.

While Maldives received a quota of 1,000 this year, it received only 453 the previous year. The quotas were limited in the face of the global Covid-19 Pandemic.

Saudi Arabia had revealed previously that the Hajj pilgrimage for this year will see the pre-pandemic rules, and will mark the first time the pilgrimage is held normally since the pandemic began.
