A Bill on an amendment to the Presidential Elections Act which seeks to set the candidacy application window to 14 days has been submitted to the Parliament.

Kelaa Member of Parliament (MP) Ibrahim Shareef sponsored the Bill on behalf of the government. The first reading of the Bill was held during Monday's parliament session.

The Bill seeks an amendment to Clause 5 (A) of the Presidential Elections Act which states that the Elections Commission should give a period of not less than 10 days for the persons wishing to stand for the presidential election to submit to the Elections Commission their applications.

The amendment seeks to change this duration to a total of 14 days.
