Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that judicial reform is the solution to the issue of influencing courts.
President Nasheed said this while speaking at a parliamentary campaign event of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) at Vaavu Felidhoo. He said that justice is non-existent if justice is delayed. He added that when it comes to constitutional justice, the best method is to hasten towards acquiring justice. President Nasheed further raised the question as to why there are delays in the conclusion of cases at courts.
He said that simply speaking of carrying out changes within courts is not enough and added that ultimately, judicial reform is the answer.
President Nasheed reiterated that one of the most important work that will be carried out under MDP’s Parliamentary Policy, Agenda ‘19 is judicial reform. He further commented on the working environment in Maldives during the speech.
The former President said that while there are currently 70,000 foreign workers in Maldives, MDP minimum wage allocations will also be set under Agenda ‘19. He noted that this will allow employment opportunities for Maldivian locals. He said that the fee that is required to hire foreign nationals will then be higher than the cost of hiring locals and hence will allow more employment opportunities for Maldivians. President Nasheed reiterated that the issue of lack of employment opportunities is not just an issue in Maldives. He noted that the main issue is an issue of governance.
The former President appealed to support MDP in endorsing a governance that is empathetic to its people.
