The visa-waiver agreement between the government of the Maldives and China has taken effect, allowing Maldivian travelers to enter China without a prior visa.

Although the visa-waiver agreement was signed last year, the agreement had not taken effect due to the restrictions in China over the Covid-19 Pandemic.

A tweet by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid highlighted that Maldivians will now be able to travel to China without a visa on a 30 day visa-free basis

Visa-waiver agreements between Turkey, Thailand, and Kazakhstan had recently been implemented as well, including many European countries.
