Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has presented its Presidential Ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail presented the ticket to President Solih during a special event held at the Carnival area on Friday night.
President Solih won the MDP Presidential Primary held on January 28th after receiving 24,566 votes against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed who only received 15,641 votes.
Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed stated that once the ticket is presented to President Solih, the party will begin official campaign activities. As such, he stated that administrative work regarding the campaign will begin starting Friday night.
Speaker Nasheed had refused to support the President even though he has been presented with the ticket. He had previously stated that he does not believe that President Solih had won the primary election, and alleged that he merely received only 20 percent of the votes.
