Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that Maldives is lucky the country does not have any rivalries with other countries.

Minister Shahid made the remarks while speaking at the outreach programme for school and university students to discuss foreign policies initiated by Foreign Service Institute of Maldives (FOSIM).

"No country has any rivalry with us. We, the Maldives and its Administration are no one's enemies. We are friendly with all the countries. This is a feat not a lot of nations have achieved," Minister Shahid said.

Minister Shahid added that Maldives has always shared close friendly ties with all the nations across the globe, which is also evident from the historical documents in China and Ottoman Empire.

Minister Shahid described Maldives as a role model small state, noting that Maldives is part of 96 international organisations.

He added that Maldives was the smallest state to join the United Nations back in 1965.
