President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih the isolation of Maldives from rest of the world has now come to an end.
The President said this while speaking at a campaign event for MDP candidate and Parliamentary hopeful for the Komandoo constituency, Hussain Waheed.
He noted that the outside world’s perception of Maldives has now changed and added that Maldives has now re-entered the global family. President Solih reiterated that the ties between Maldives and foreign nations have been strengthened. He said that foreign countries have provided free aid to the people of Maldives and re-established the trust of these nations in the Maldivian government.
The President noted that the current government has achieved numerous feats within a short period of time.
Additionally, he noted that the progress of this country can be achieved through releasing decentralized powers to local councils. He added that the passing of the Bill on decentralization by Parliament was carried out after muddling up the legislation severely.
As such, President Solih noted that while the Bill on decentralization was proposed to Parliament during the previous MDP administration, the Bill was passed after it had been marred.
He said that the progress within islands can only be brought on through empowering local councils to be resourceful in their own right.
