Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that the party will present its Presidential Ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday, after he won the party's primary with a landslide victory.
MDP Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed revealed to One Online today that a special event is going to be held at the Carnival area this coming Friday to present the President with the ticket. He highlighted that permission is currently being sought from Male' City Council to use the area for the event.
President Solih secured 24،572 votes in the election held last January, where his opponent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed lost after gaining only a mere 15،631 votes.
Following his defeat, Nasheed refused to back President Solih for the upcoming Presidential Election, and instead created a separate branch within MDP under his campaign slogan 'Fikuregge Dhirun'. As he continues garnering support for the branch, he stated that a candidate to back will be decided later.
