Housing Ministry on Tuesday opened opportunity for rent defaulters from 'Gedhoruverikurun Programme' to reschedule their rent payments.

The Ministry made an announcement that anyone who has not been able to keep up with their rent payments for any reason and wish to reschedule rent can write a letter to the Ministry by end of February.

The Ministry did not provide any further details regarding this.

The flats were built during former President Abdulla Yameen's tenure by China Machinery Engineering Corporation.

Speaking to 'One', an official from the Ministry stated that the opportunity to reschedule rent payments have been opened to residents in Hulhumale' as well as the islands. The official added that the decision was made to allow ease of payment for the rent defaulters on the rent and fines.
