The parent company of Madifushi Private Island Resort has been fined with MVR 20,000 over illegal coastal protection works.
The resort, developed by Maldives Inflight Catering Company also runs Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH).
A Press Release issued by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) noted that the fine comes after the coastal protection works were carried out without an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and the necessary approvals.
They had ordered the company to pay the fine within 30 days including government holidays.
Madifushi Private Island Resort is the first resort to be opened this year, and has 89 beach and water-villas.
