Channel 13's journalist who suffered injuries while covering the opposition's protest during the President Address is to be flown to Sri Lanka for further medical attention.
Hassan Shaheed of Channel 13 was injured by a Police shield while the latter was dispersing the opposition protestors. Following his injury, the protestors had taken Shaheed to ADK for treatment.
PPM Tweeted on Monday that Shaheed will be flown to Sri Lanka for further medical attention, stating that the journalist is feared to have suffered a brain hemorrhage and a spinal fracture.
Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) has expressed concern following the incident, stating that the journalists were wearing press passes when they were injured by the authorities.
"We call on Police to ensure the safety of the press while dispersing crowds at protests," MJA said.
MJA further added that they have received reports that a VTV journalist was also harassed by the protesters.
