President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of condolences to the people of Turkey following the earthquake on Monday.
Turkey has confirmed over 1,600 casualties in the quake which is believed to be the strongest to hit Turkey since 1939. Multiple people still remain trapped in the collapsed buildings and the official numbers are unclear as of yet.
President Solih Tweeted on Monday expressing his sorrow at the casualties and offering condolences to the families and the Turkish authorities.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake has left multiple buildings collapsed and several people displaced in Turkey.
Turkish authorities are working on rescuing the survivors trapped inside the collapsed buildings. The authorities have confirmed over 3,000 people have suffered various injuries in the disaster.
Jumhooree Party's leader and Maamigili constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim also sent condolences to the people of Turkey following the earthquake.
