President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the Disability Allowance will be increased starting June.

While delivering the annual Presidential Address during the inaugural sitting of the first term of the Parliament for the year, the President revealed that the registry of persons with disabilities has been compiled as per the Disability Act of Maldives.

He further revealed that the disability allowance will be increased starting June, and that a center for services required after reaching 18 will also be opened in Hulhumale' this week.

The disability allowance is currently set as MVR 2,000. During a meeting with the blind community, this was raised with the President, requesting the allowance to be increased to MVR 5,000.
