President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that 53 cases related to the corruption of Maldives Marketing & PR Company (MMPRC) are being investigated, with eight of these moving forward for prosecution.
In his delivery of the Presidential Address during the inaugural sitting of the first term of the parliament this year, the President noted that the legal proceedings he highlighted last year have begun and are progressing.
He added that while the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been tasked with moving the cases forward based on the report by the Presidential Commission, 14 cases have been submitted to the court.
As such. the President highlighted that 43 charges were proven against five individuals while cases are moving forward against seven more individuals and two companies. In addition to this, he noted that the ACC is investigating 53 more cases, while they are working closely with the Prosecutor General's Office to charge eight more in relation to the corruption.
The President further added that he had also received the report on the disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan, and noted that the recommendations suggested by the Presidential Commission are being implemented. He further stated that while three have been arrested and are being prosecuted, the presidential commission is working on the murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed.
