President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that Maldives Police Service (MPS) will be active in all inhabited islands of the country by the end of this year.
In his delivery of the Presidential Address during the inaugural sitting of the first term of the Parliament this year, the President noted that while it is essential to prove the service in all inhabited islands, it is rather challenging to do so since the islands are spread out so far apart across the nation.
Despite these challenges, President Solih said that 18 police stations came into service just last year. He further stressed that the service will be available on all inhabited islands by the end of this year.
He also revealed that the police and citizens have both been benefiting from the Maldives Police Service Act which was ratified on 27th March 2021.
As such, neighborhood police has been introduced in over 100 islands while body cameras are now being used by the Police.
