Maldives and Sri Lanka have signed a border security pact.
The agreement was signed in Sri Lanka during Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid's ongoing official visit to the island nation. Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed Hussain signed the agreement on behalf of Maldives and his counterpart, I. S. H. J. Ilukpitiya. Minister Shahid attended the ceremony.
Minister Shahid Tweeted on Saturday that the agreement would further enhance the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Maldives.
Minister Shahid is currently traveling to Sri Lanka to participate in their Independence Day celebrations, on the official invitation from the Sri Lankan government. During the trip, he met with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister and also visited the Maldives Education and Cultural Centre.
