Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have launched an investigation into an alleged turtling incident on an uninhabited island in Baa Atoll.
The turtles were found on Baa Keyodhoo, an uninhabited island near Baa Kendhoo.
Director General of EPA, Ibrahim Naeem revealed to One Online that they had discovered a large number of turtles that were killed on Friday. He further added that at the time of press, it was difficult to confirm the total number of turtles that were found.
He also stated that the agency is currently investigating the issue.
Police revealed that they received reports of the turtling in a Baa Atoll island around 4:38pm yesterday. They further noted that their officers had visited the island and reported the incident to EPA.
They also noted that while no one has been arrested yet, the case is being actively investigated.
