Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has accepted defeat in the MDP Presidential Primary, acknowledging a landslide victory by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

A message shared by Nasheed in a WhatsApp group where MDP lawmakers are in read that if the election had gone without any issues, a lot of votes that President Solih received would have been void. However, he still acknowledged that the President could have won by a small margin based on the voter list.

He further stated that he does not believe that MDP could win the 2023 Presidential Election with President Solih.

Nasheed further suggested to creating MDP local branches on every island under the name 'Fikuregge Dhirun' and finding a way to bring back the alleged 39,000 members who were kicked out of the party.

He also highlighted that it would be easier to support a candidate who supports changing the governing system to a Parliamentary System.

As per the interim results of the election, President Solih had received 24,566 votes had won the primary with a landslide victory over opponet Mohamed Nasheed, who received only 15,641 votes.
