President declares 6 February a public holiday

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared Monday, February 6 2023, a public holiday.

The announcement was made in a directive issued by the President's Office on Sunday.

President Solih is scheduled to deliver his Presidential Address to the People's Majlis on February 6 to initiate the first session of the parliament for this year.

According to Article 84 of the Constitution, the President is required to give his annual presidential address at the first meeting of the Parliament each year. In this address, he will inform the Parliament of the Maldives' current situation, including its successes and difficulties, as well as his plans for the future of the nation.

The parliament went into recess on November 28 after completing 54.7% of the tasks.
