Kaadhishoo Member of Parliament Abdulla Jabir has stepped down as the leader of DRP and has begun works to form his own party.

Jabir revealed to One Online on Sunday that he had stepped away from DRP today. He noted that the decision came after the Elections Commission had decided to dissolve the party, which is now an ongoing case at the court.

Jabir noted that the new party he is forming will be named Green Party of the Maldives (GPM) which will work in environmental sectors apart from politics.

He stated that works to register the party within the next 45 days are ongoing. Membership drive for the party will begin coming Thursday according to him.

Jabir also added that even though DRP is dissolved, he will still run for Presidency.
