Leader of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has met with Sri Lanka's president, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

MRM Tweeted on Friday that MRM's leader Maumoon has met with Wickremesinghe during his visit to Sri Lanka. The meeting was attended by Faris Maumoon as well.

During the meeting, Maumoon and Wickremesinghe discussed the existing bilateral ties between Maldives and Sri Lanka and how to further develop the ties between the nations.

Maumoon noted the aid provided by Sri Lanka to Maldives during his tenure as president of the Maldives, and thanked Sri Lanka for the effort and the assistance provided by the nation. Maumoon highlighted the assistance Sri Lanka provides to Maldives even in times of economic difficulties faced by the island nation.

Sri Lanka awarded Maumoon the Mitra Vibushana Award in 2018 which is the highest award the Sri Lankan government bestows on people.
