Gan Airport will be developed to cater to 1.5 mln tourists annually: Pres

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the Gan International Airport in Addu City will be developed to cater to 1.5 million tourists annually.

Speaking during the 'Ibu 2023' campaign event at Artificial Beach last night, the President noted that airports will be established within distances of 30 minutes from inhabited islands. He further added that international airports will also be developed in the Southern Atolls similar to Hanimadhoo International Airport in the North.

President Solih also highlighted that his government had completed the works of Hoarafushi Airport, which is now being used for general aviation. In addition to this, he noted the completion of Gaafu Dhaal Faresmaathodaa Airport, while works on the airports in Meemu Muli, and Faafu Magoodhoo are now ongoing.

In addition to this, the President noted that the Noonu Maafaru Airport Expansion has been mobilized while Noonu Makunudhoo, Baa Thulhadhoo, Shaviyani Bilehfhai, and Thaa Vilufushi airport projects are currently in the bidding process.
