Former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom's legal team has revealed they are ready to appeal his conviction for money laundering and bribery.

Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, who is leading Yameen's legal team made the announcement during a press conference by the opposition coalition on Thursday night.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Jameel highlighted the delay in receiving the full case report, which in turn delayed the appeal process. He said the report was concluded abrupt and unusually and would need extensive research before appeal submission.

"We will need to conduct extensive research on the report before we submit the appeal in this case. The research process is nearing an end and we are hopeful we can submit the appeal sometime next week," Dr. Jameel said.

He further added that the legal team would request Yameen be released on bail and that the team is hopeful High Court will take the appeal into consideration to consider bail.
