Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 40 years in jail, after finding him guilty of raping a young girl and taking nude photos and videos of her.

The man in question is Mohamed Shazleef, Mercury Light, L. Kalaidhoo.

The charges by the state claimed that on January 6, 2018, he had taken a 17-year-old girl to the forest near the farmland in Kalaidhoo, where he raped her and took nude pictures and videos of her.

He faced two charges in the case, which were the rape of a minor and the production of child pornography.

Shazleen was found guilty of both charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape and an additional 20 years for the production of child pornography.

The two years and 14 days he has spent in jail pending the outcome of trial was considered as time served. He therefore has 38 years left to serve.
