Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has stated that no drugs have gone missing from MCS custody.

In a message sent to the media on Tuesday, Police said that a man was handed over to Police on 8 January, but that MCS did not handover his luggage.

Police said that the man brought 30kg luggage with him, but it is unclear what happened to the luggage after the man was taken into custody. Police added that this case made it evident that the Airport lacks CCTV surveillance in important zones.

MCS released a statement on Tuesday stating that any substances seized by MCS is handed over directly to Police after initial examination for drugs.

"MCS has not lost any drugs in MCS custody until now," the statement said.

MCS further stated that Customs carries out regular checks and that every check does not yield in a confiscation of possessions from travellers.
