Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that he will not stand by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih if he loses the MDP Presidential Primary.
During his campaign trail, Nasheed was met with the question of whether he would be with President Solih or the opposition PPM if he lost the primary.
In response, Nasheed stated that it is 100 percent clear that he would never stand with PPM, and added that he would not stand with the President either in the event of him losing the primary.
As such, he stated that if he lost the primary he will remain home.
Nasheed had previously reiterated that he would win the primary, highlighting that his opponent would receive only about 20 percent of the votes in the primary.
Meanwhile, the President had previously stated that he would support whichever candidate wins the primary.
The MDP Presidential Primary is scheduled for January 28th.
