Abbas Adil Riza has been released from custody after being arrested for trying to incite an arson attack on the High Commission of India in the Maldives.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed to One Online that upon being presented to the Criminal Court for a remand hearing, the court had ordered his release on certain conditions. However, they did not reveal the nature of these conditions.
Police arrested him on December 25th, and was remanded for five days. An additional seven days were added to his remand later.
In a tweet from his personal twitter account, Abbas had alleged that the arson attacks that took place in Addu City during the year 2012 were ordered by the Indian government. He had further stated that they had not taken revenge for those attacks, and to begin with the High Commission.
His arrest came after all the political parties had condemned the statement, and the government had stated that this issue will be investigated as a serious issue.
