Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has, in partnership with Bank of Maldives (BML) and MasterCard, started accepting bus fare payments for RTL Male' City Bus service via MasterCard and VISA contactless debit and credit cards.

MTCC said customers can use MasterCard and VISA contactless debit or credit cards issued by any bank across the globe to pay for RTL bus service. MTCC added that fare collection validators have been installed in all the RTL Male' City buses.

The new contactless card payment option alongside the existing payment methods will provide more accessibility and convenience to customers during their commutes, MTCC said.

MTCC said the 3 payment options available to customers are as follows:

  • 1. Cash Payments: Paper ticket directly from RTL R10, R11, and R12 Male' buses as well as in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Gan, Fonadhoo, Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo
  • 2. Online Payment: QR tickets through RTL Travel App or Website - service is available for all RTL buses and ferries
  • 3. Tap to Pay: account-based ticketing through contactless MasterCard and VISA debit or credit card for Male' City buses

MTCC said the contactless payment option is currently available for Male' City buses, but that MTCC is working on introducing the Tap to Pay option for RTL bus service across all the other regions.
