The biggest futsal challenge in Maldives, Sonee Sports Golden Futsal Challenge 2023 held its draws yesterday.

Sonee Sports Golden Futsal Challenge 2023 draws were held at the Kam Inn on Sunday. A total of 102 teams from across the nation participated in the futsal challenge this year. While the challenge is set to begin on February 4th, a total of 242 matches will be played during the futsal challenge.

Haa Alif Atoll is the atoll with the most number of teams this year, with 12 teams who have been divided into three groups. While Haa Dhaalu Atoll has nine teams in two groups, four teams are in Group One and five teams are in Group Two.

Shaviyani Atoll and Kaafu Atoll have both seven teams participating, who are divided into two groups each whole six teams from Alif Dhaal has been divided into three teams of two.

Gaafu Alif Atoll has eight teams divided into two groups, Meemu Atoll has six teams divided into two groups while Thaa Atoll with defending champions Thimarafushi has seven teams divided into two groups.

In all other atolls, in the Atoll Stage matches will be played under a league rule with champions being decided from two lags. Addu City remains the only Atoll to have to play under Home and Away rule as only two teams participated, where two lags would be played between the teams.

An Atoll Final will be played after a round of league matches in all other islands.

Atolls with five teams or less than five teams will see matches being played out under a league rule, where the first and second team of the island would play in the Atoll Final.

While we have seen the brand behind the development of sports in the country, they have also been the closest partner of the Golden Futsal Challenge.

The Golden Futsal Challenge 2022 saw a participation of 91 teams from across the Maldives who competed in 177 matches. As such, Golden Futsal Challenge 2023 is expected to receive bigger support from the atolls next year.

The Golden Futsal Challenge has been deemed the most successful format for atoll and island representation in a tournament so far. Golden Futsal Association has also made some changes to the tournament format for next year.

Th. Thimarafushi won the champions of the Golden Futsal Challenge 2022 after beating K. Gaafaru. Thimarafushi also took the cup in 2019 and 2016 as well.
