Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that he will win the MDP Presidential Primary with 60 percent of the votes during the primary scheduled for January 28th.

Speaking during a press conference on Sunday to brief the press on his campaign updates, the former President stated that he expects to receive about 60 to 70 percent of votes in the primary.

When asked whether he plans to run for the presidency as an independent candidate if he loses the primary and whether he is open to working with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nasheed stated that he will surely not lose the primary. He further added that no member of MDP would be willing to work with the President or back him.

He further stressed that islands with larger and smaller populations are both ready to vote for him, adding that islands with larger populations had expressed great disappointment in President Solih.
