First Lady Fazna Ahmed has stated that the fact that the ruling MDP and opposition alliance PPM/PNC were able to hold a political activity at the same place simultaneously is a testament to the freedom of speech in the Maldives.

President Solih held a campaign activity at MDP Haruge last night. While the activity was ongoing, opposition PPM/PNC had also held a rally at the artificial beach across the MDP Haruge.

During the opposition rally, calls to free former President Abdulla Yameen who has been jailed for 11 years over corruption were heard, including heavy criticism of the government.

A post by the first lady on Thursday noted that Wednesday night was a historic night, as two of the biggest political parties held activities simultaneously and peacefully.
