Speaker of Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim has said that the date of the next sitting of Parliament can be determined when cases in Parliamentary Committees are concluded. He added, prior to concluding today’s session in Parliament that that the date could also be set with the proposal of a new different case.
Today’s Parliamentary sitting was attended by a total of 22 members of Parliament.
There was only one topic on the agenda today and that was the process of seeking Parliamentary approval to allow Maldives to sign a treaty with India. The treaty, which has been assigned to a Parliamentary Committee is titled - “Treaty Between The Republic of Maldives and The Republic of India on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters”.
Following the announcement that the treaty has been assigned to the Parliamentary Committee, Speaker of Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim declared the deadline for all matters currently pending in Parliamentary Committees. This included an education Bill as well as an amendment to the National University Law currently assigned to the Parliamentary Committee on National Development.
The Speaker of Parliament announced that there are no matters of debate on the agenda today. Due to no matters being brought forward by Committees to the floor, nd with no matters of debate remaining, the conclusion if today’s sitting was declared at 9:36 am this morning.
