MAldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will be running a service test trial to use Visa and Master Card on RTL bus services.

MTCC informed the media on Saturday that the service test trial will be conducted from January 1-2 to test debit card transactions on RTL buses.

During the two-day trial run, customers can use their contactless Visa and Master Cards to pay for bus service, MTCC said.

The trial run will be conducted on Male' bus R10 (Orchid), R11 (Ameenee), and R12 (Sosun) routes only, MTCC said.

RTL bus service began in Male' in September 2022. MTCC began charging MVR 7 for bus rides after 4 weeks of free service. However, children under the age of 3, elderly, and students in school uniform can still travel free of charge on the buses.

Bus tickets can be purchased via the RTL application and travelers can use their bus cards to pay for the rides at present.
