The Criminal Court has found former Felidhoo MP, Yoosuf Naeem guilty over the Vaavu Atoll Aarah case for offering bribes, and sentenced him to three years, two months and 12 days in jail.

Former President Abdulla Yameen was also charged with corruption and money laundering related to the sale of resort development acquisition and leasing rights to Vaau Atoll Aarah, and was found guilty of both charges after which he was sentenced to 11 years in jail.

In addition to this, the court fined the former president with USD 5 million, and ordered him to pay it to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within the next six months.

Yoosuf Naeem has also been found guilty of offering a bribe to the former president, hence the state has moved for an eight-year jail term for him.

However, the Criminal Court had sentenced him to three years, two months and 12 days in jail.

The case was presided by Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Shakeel .
