Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) has said Maldives will reach the 1.6 million tourist arrival goal on Tuesday.

MMPRC's Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed told 'One' on Monday that the 1.6 millionth tourist is believed to arrive in the Maldives around noon on Tuesday. Thoyyib added that MMPRC is making all the necessary preparations to welcome the tourist with boduberu and other cultural activities.

The Maldivian Government's target for 2022 is 1.6 million tourist arrivals. According to the statistics released by Tourism Ministry, a total 1,590,379 tourists have arrived in Maldives up to date. As such, Maldives is currently 9,621 tourist arrivals short of reaching the 1.6 million tourist arrival target.

Statistics by the Ministry further reveal that on average 5,508 tourists visit the country daily, who spend about seven to eight days in the prominent vacation destination.

India leads the top source markets for tourism this year, taking up 14.1 percent of the market share with 209,725 tourist arrivals. Russia has taken the second spot with 12.3 percent of the market share with 182,337 arrivals. Tourism Ministry predicts more tourist arrivals from Russia during the winter season.

United Kingdom is at the third slot with 10.8 percent of the market share, and China's tourist arrivals are showing a steady increase monthly.
