Afcons says one worker is missing since the fire incident at the accommodation facility at Gulhifalhu island.

Afcons said no body or human remains have been found after the MNDF Fire and Rescue team completed their search, but that Police and MNDF have been informed about the missing worker and an intensive search is being carried.

Out of the 457 workers residing at the accommodation, Afcons said 78 were taken to the hospital on Friday following the fire incident and 32 were admitted for treatment. Of the people hospitalised, 24 people were treated for minor injuries and 4 needed surgeries. Afcons said the rest have been discharged.

Afcons said the company is providing all the affected workers with clothes, suitcases, mobile phones, and monetary assistance on top of new accommodation.

No workers are owed any salaries and all wages have been disbursed on time, Afcons said.

Afcons said the safety and security of the staff and workers is their utmost priority, and the company will be taking all threats to their employees seriously with thorough investigations.
