The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) will make a decision this month, on charging Ali Shahil, 23, who was arrested from the crime scene in relation to the murder of Shiaau Mohamed Saeed.

Shiaau's dead body was found on August 7th, inside an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereenvilla. Police had arrested 23-year-old Ali Shaahil in connection to the murder. He was arrested inside the apartment where Shiaau was found dead.

At the time of press, Shahil remains the sole suspect in the murder case.

A spokesperson at the PGO and Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu revealed to One Online today that the office is set to make a decision this month regarding charging the suspect.

A media official at Maldives Police Service added that they are currently investigating the murder, however, no further details were provided. One Online has learned that the delay in prosecution was caused since important details for the investigation were still missing.

Speaking during a recent press conference Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Saeed said her body had sustained significant injuries even after being killed.

He further added that there was enough evidence to find him guilty of intentionally murdering another person. He highlighted that it was important to establish the motive behind the murder, stressing that they are still working on figuring it out and expect that extracting the data from Shaahils phone may lead to a breakthrough in the case.

He further stressed that they do not believe this to be a pre-planned murder, noting that it might be a "sudden incident" which had led to her death.

The superintendent also revealed that Shaahil has remained largely uncooperative in the investigation, and had not confessed to the murder either.
