The Minister of External Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj has arrived in Maldives on two-day official visit today.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid greeted the Indian Minister at Velana International Airport.

A tweet posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Maldives on the invitation of Minister Shahid. The tweet reiterated that the Minister of External Affairs is set to meet with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim as well as members of the Cabinet on this visit.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that talks will be held during this visit, on the progress of the matters agreed upon during President Solih’s visit to India.

The statement reiterated that talks will also be held on current developmental projects, and the medical field. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also added that discussions will also be conducted on strengthening the ties between the people of both nations.

Several Indian media outlets have said on behalf of the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj that this visit will see discussions on increasing even closer ties between both nations.
