A crane that was being used for the construction of the Thilamale Bridge under the Greater Male' Connectivity Plan has broken and fallen down.

Photos circulating around social media show the broken crane, which was mounted onto one of the platforms between Male' and Villimale' by Afcons who has been contracted with the project.

An official at the Planning Ministry revealed to One Online that the broken crane was being used to place support beams in the ocean near Villimale. They further added that the crane fell around 2:00 pm today due to a technical issue, adding that the exact cause is being investigated.

The official revealed that no one was injured during this incident.

Recently, one of the platforms being used for the project had run aground on the Villimale' reef, causing extensive damage to the reef. The company was fined with MVR 68 million in the case.
